Nigeria’s volleyball national team has quickly shifted focus towards Thursday’s game against Algeria, as they aim to continue their winning streak at the African championship in Tunisia.
Sports247 reports that this revelation came from the team’s Japanese coach, Ryan Masajedi, who declared that they will not rest on their laurels after Wednesday’s early morning victory over Chad.
Masajedi acknowledged that it was a huge boost seeing his squad open their campaign at the 2026 African Men’s Volleyball Nations Championship on a winning note by defeating Chad 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-6).
He added that it was a huge step forward, as they aim to secure the competition’s sole ticket for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, USA, as well as qualification to the 2027 FIVB World Championship.
The soft-spoken tactician was all smiles, as the Zone 3 champions dominated the opening set 25-17 and the same scoreline in the second set; they won 25-16 to seal their first victory of the championship.
“I am excited that the players played according to the instructions given to them; it shows our training programmed worked out. They executed the game plan.
“We had no issues beating Chad in our first match. We’ll now shift focus to our next match against Algeria and we will not be carried away by the victory. We have to top our group to have a favorable pairing in the next round,” said Masajedi.
Sports247 gathered that he also thanked Nigerians for their support and urged the fans to continue believing in the players, as they chase multiple targets at the championship.
