The president of Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF), Dr Ademola Are has come out with an enthusiastic observation that the country now has its own globally acclaimed instructors in the sport, who can equally train their compatriots at home.
Sports247 reports that Are gave the assurance at the end of a three-day World Rugby intensive coaching, refereeing and medical course organised by the NRFF in Abuja, where he charged the participants put their new ideas to work at their various communities.
Are added that the sophisticated training they gained during the course that ended on Saturday should make the coaches, referees and medical officers become the pivot of rugby development in their states, where further growth of the sport will depend on their commitment.
While expressing satisfaction with the rate at which rugby is growing in Nigeria, the NRFF boss called for stronger collaboration among coaches, officials, players and stakeholders in creating a sustainable structure for the sport to develop better across the country.
Are enthused, “I am happy with the level Nigeria has attained in the last few years. Nigeria now has educators who can train coaches and referees locally; meaning World Rugby does not always need to send educators here.
“They can provide supervision, as we have done this time around. The most encouraging part is that more coaches and referees are coming on board. Go back and impact your communities because rugby needs you.
“Without you, rugby cannot make headway. I also urge you to work with your respective state associations, sports councils and ministries of sports to grow the game and secure greater recognition for rugby.”
Sports247 reports further that about 80 participants registered for the three-day seminar and workshop, at the end of which World Rugby East and Southern Africa Game Growth Manager, Robert Bwari stated satisfaction with the progress recorded in Nigeria.
