Nigerian forward David Akintola has completed his return to Cypriot giants Omonia Nicosia, signing a two-year contract after leaving English Championship side Hull City.
Omonia confirmed the transfer on Thursday, announcing an agreement with Hull City for the 30-year-old Nigerian, who has chosen to wear the No. 8 shirt during his second spell with the club.
The move marks a return to familiar territory for Akintola, who previously represented Omonia during the 2019/20 season after joining on loan from Danish side FC Midtjylland.
During that first spell, the Nigerian made seven appearances and provided two assists, contributing to Omonia’s campaign before the season was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The club ultimately finished top of the Cypriot league standings.
Akintola arrives back in Cyprus with considerably more experience, having spent several years playing in Turkey for Hatayspor, Adana Demirspor and Çaykur Rizespor, before moving to England.
His most recent club was Hull City, where he spent the past year and was part of the squad that celebrated the club’s historic promotion to the Premier League. Omonia noted that his last appearance for Hull came on August 28, 2026, in the EFL Cup.
The Nigerian began his European career with FC Midtjylland before gaining experience through loan spells in Norway, including Jerv, Haugesund and Rosenborg. His performances in Norway helped establish him as an experienced attacking player before his move to Cyprus in 2020.
Now back at Omonia, Akintola will compete in the Cypriot First Division, where the club will look to his pace, attacking versatility and experience to strengthen its squad.
For Akintola, the return represents a fresh chapter with a club where he has already made his mark — six years after his first stint in the famous green shirt.
