Seamoriow Football Academy of Ikotun will once again rely heavily on the agility of their in-form goalkeeper, Monday Austin Peter, as they chase back-to-back conquest of a competition sponsored by their owner.
Sports247 reports that ‘Marvellous Monday’ had not joined the squad last year when they won the annual Seamoriow U15 Football League for the first time since its inception in 2021, but he has now become a pivotal member of the adequately sponsored team.
With two man of the match performances to his name already, the second of which came in last Thursday’s 3-1 semi-finals victory over Shuffle Select Football Academy of Abule Egba, all eyes will be on Monday to again excel during Sunday’s final.
Leading Seamoriow to victory would be a huge achievement for the lad whose parents hail from Benue State, as he only joined the squad fully three months ago, after scaling tough hurdles posed in their elaborate and strategic screening process.
‘Marvellous Monday,’ who grew up in Agege area of Lagos and passed through one of the institutions within Oniwaya schools complex, told Sports247 that he wants to excel in football to make his mother happy.
“My mum has supported me with everything that I need in football,” he recalled. “I want to make it big in football so that I can make her proud and support her financially.
“I am also thanking the owner of Seamoriow and the coaches for believing in me. I believe that, through their support, I can even be greater than my hero, Thibaut Courtois of Belgium and Real Madrid.”
Sports247 gathered further that Sunday’s final, which is billed to begin at 3pm, will be preceded by the third place match between Shuffle Select and Pumah Football Academy of Akowonjo.
Seamoriow’s opponents, Arewa Warriors FC of Ile-Epo beat Pumah FA 4-3 on penalties after coming from behind to force a 1-1 draw during the second semi-final that was also played on Thursday at the famous astro-turf pitch in Islamic area of Ikotun, Lagos.
