Nigerian-born youngster, Chidozie Obi-Martin has promised to make the best of his loan move to Willem II FC of Netherlands, as he wants to use the club as a stepping stone to gain more experience, develop his career and get regular playing time in the unfolding season.
Sports247 reports that the 18-year-old midfielder, who is more popularly known as Chido Obi, made the declaration following his arrival at his new base from Manchester United of England, where he got his senior debut less than 12 months after joining from Arsenal.
He became United’s youngest-ever starter in the English Premier League when he lined out against Brentford in 2025 but, due to lack of opportunities in the first team, a loan move had been touted for him all along and he has now finally linked up with Willem II.
The Dutch outfit confirmed his loan switch on Thursday afternoon, following which Chido declared: “This is a great step in my career for me. I want to play as much as possible, gain experience and develop myself further. I will work hard for the team and hope to be important.”
Sports247 reports further that it’s a new chapter for Obi, who incidentally made five appearances in late 2022 for Denmark’s under-16 team, before switching allegiance to England, which he represented twice in February 2023, against Cyprus and Scotland.
However, in April of the same year, he returned to the Danish under-16 team and scored twice in three appearances, which earned him a call-up to their cadet team, and he starred in the 2024 UEFA European U17 Championship qualification campaign with two goals in his first three games.
