The president of Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Engineer Musa Nimrod has come out with a bold declaration that the country is ready to become Africa’s leading nation in the captivating sport of serves, smashes and spikes.
Sports247 reports that Nimrod provided the assertion while celebrating the gallant feat of the country’s female national team, which finished ninth at the 2026 African Senior Women’s Volleyball Nations Championship in Nairobi, Kenya.
The CAVB Zone 3 champions achieved the feat after they defeated Mali 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-14) to round-off their campaign on a winning note with the final classification match at Kasarani Stadium on Wednesday.
Nigeria had finished fourth in the group stage after defeating Ghana but lost to Cameroon, Tunisia and the defending champions, Kenya, following which they won all their classification matches versus Senegal, Democratic Republic of Congo and Mali.
In response to the late rally, Nimrod expressed satisfaction with the team’s performances, as he noted that the squad was loaded with many young players, while also pointing out that the results were an evidence that the country can challenge for glory in Africa.
“I’m pleased with the young girls because, as I have always said, they have great potential. It shows that Nigeria is ready to conquer Africa in volleyball. I have seen the potential in these young players, and I’m delighted that they were able to win their last match while I was here.
“It’s not going to be easy. Let the young beach volleyball players be ready for the big work ahead. There is a lot of work ahead, but we thank God,” said Nimrod, who also expressed appreciation with Nigeria’s high commissioner and embassy officials for their support and encouragement.
Sports247 reports further that Nimrod also charged the country’s beach volleyball players to intensify preparations and stay focused on the tough task ahead of them, following their historic first ever qualification for the Olympic Games.
