Ajisola Samuel Rereloluwa is proving that setbacks can become stepping stones after transforming from a goalkeeper into a reliable left-back for Femmco Football Academy.
The young defender, who began playing football during his secondary school days around Ikeja City Mall, initially developed his game between the posts. He started his football career as a goalkeeper with Greater Tomorrow FC in Ikeja before discovering that his qualities could make him equally effective as an outfield player.

Rereloluwa said playing football within his community helped him recognise his defensive ability. His next major breakthrough came after joining Femmco Football Academy, where he informed his coach about his preference for playing with his left foot.
That decision eventually changed the direction of his career, with the coaching staff moving him into the left-back position.
However, his journey to becoming a regular starter was far from straightforward. Rereloluwa spent time on the bench and faced doubts from some teammates, particularly regarding his fitness and readiness to compete.
Rather than allowing the criticism to derail him, he turned it into motivation.
“I was consistent and hardworking. I always attended training and remained dedicated, which helped me prove myself to my coach,” he told SPORTS247.
His persistence eventually paid off. The former goalkeeper has now established himself as a regular starter and an important player for Femmco.
Rereloluwa also acknowledged that being bullied and looked down upon contributed to his determination to improve.
“I would say that the way I was bullied and looked down upon motivated me to improve tremendously as a player,” he said.
The youngster now has his sights set on professional football abroad, with the ambition of eventually giving back to his community. He also believes he can earn opportunities to represent Nigeria across different age-grade categories and, ultimately, enjoy a long career with the national team.
Following Femmco’s narrow semifinal defeat, Rereloluwa admitted his disappointment after an own goal caused by defensive communication issues proved decisive.
Despite the setback, his ambitions remain firmly intact. Inspired by Marc Cucurella, Rereloluwa wants to continue improving his game and make the leap from grassroots football to the professional stage.
From guarding the goalposts to owning the left flank, Ajisola Rereloluwa’s journey is one of resilience—and he believes his biggest chapter is still ahead.
