Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have stepped up preparations for their opening fixture at the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Berlin, Germany, with the reigning African champions completing their final practice session ahead of Friday’s clash with South Korea.
Sports247 reports that the Nigerian team looked sharp, focused and determined during their final training session as head coach Rena Wakama and her players fine-tuned their plans for the opening Group B encounter.

D’Tigress will face South Korea at the Berlin Arena on Friday, September 4, as they begin their campaign at the global showpiece, which runs from September 4 to 13. Nigeria, South Korea, Hungary and France make up Group B.
The final training session provided an opportunity for the coaching crew and players to put the finishing touches to their tactical preparations while building the concentration required for a demanding World Cup opener.
Beyond the court, the Nigerian players also took part in their official photoshoot and media session in Berlin, marking another important moment as the team settles into the atmosphere of the global competition.
D’Tigress arrive at the tournament as the reigning African champions and will be aiming to translate their continental dominance onto the world stage. Nigeria also enters the competition with growing confidence following a historic run at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where the team became the first African women’s basketball team to reach the Olympic quarter-finals.
The opening assignment against South Korea, however, presents a serious test. Both teams have been drawn together in Group B, with Nigeria also scheduled to face Hungary and France in the preliminary round.
With preparations now complete, attention has shifted entirely to game day as D’Tigress look to make a winning start and continue their impressive progression on the international stage.
