President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Musa Nimrod, has praised the national women’s team for their remarkable comeback victory over the Democratic Republic of Congo at the 2026 African Women’s Volleyball Championship in Nairobi, Kenya.
Nigeria recovered from a difficult position to defeat DR Congo 3-2 in their 9th–12th classification match, with Nimrod describing the victory as a strong indication of what the team can achieve.

Nimrod said the comeback was particularly encouraging considering that the squad was only recently assembled and still has significant room for development.
“This victory is a statement of intent,” Nimrod said, praising the players for showing character and determination when it mattered most.
The federation president urged Nigerians to continue supporting the team, insisting that the current group has the potential to achieve much more with sustained preparation and development.
The victory gives Nigeria renewed confidence as the team continues its campaign in Nairobi, while also providing valuable competitive experience for the players.
Nimrod believes the performance against DR Congo should serve as a foundation for the future, particularly with the squad still developing its understanding and chemistry.
He also called on Nigerians to watch out for the team in the coming years, expressing optimism that the players can make a stronger impact on the African volleyball scene.
The 2026 African Women’s Volleyball Championship has provided Nigeria with another opportunity to test its strength against some of the continent’s leading teams.
For Nimrod, however, the significance of the DR Congo victory extends beyond the classification result.
