Captain of the club, Mr. Alex Joe and the immediate past captain, Chief Patrick Ukah described Honourable Mayuku as an icon, whose indelible mark continues to be a reference point in the development of golf in Nigeria, with his efforts helping many young golfers rise to the professional rank.
While noting that Mayuku was also a four-time captain of Ibori Golf & Country Club, a former captain of the ladies’ section, Igho Ugbegu described him as an ardent golfer, whose six-year absence from the circuit left a vacuum, but hopes his return will bring a swift revival for the sector.
In his response, Mayuku, a former member representing Warri Southwest in the Delta State House of Assembly, who recently clocked 60, thanked IGCC members for their show of love and assured them that he is back to add his quota to the game in Nigeria and the international circuit.
Mayuku added, “Despite my six-year hiatus, I still kept in touch with everything that’s happening in Nigerian golf. There’s a need for Nigeria to reinvent itself on the Professional Golf Association Tour in a bid to attract international golfing events to the country.”
Sports247 gathered further that the birthday kitty attracted over one hundred professional and amateur golfers from within and outside Delta State, with major highlights being the donation of golf equipment to IGCC by Mayuku as well as the presentation of prizes to winners.
