Nigeria Is Blessed With Abundance Of Football Talents, Ahmed Musa Insists – Despite Recent Setbacks

Former Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa has apparently taken a swipe at recent factors that caused setbacks for Nigeria’s men’s and women’s national teams, as he insists the country is blessed with an abundance of football talent.

Sports247 reports that Musa, who returned home in 2024 to feature with Kano Pillars FC in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), reasoned further that hunting for hidden talents is an ideal step towards ending recent dwindling fortunes for the country.

He opined thus while speaking at the formal introduction of this year’s U-13 MILO Sports Clinic & Tournament in Kano, where he also urged firms and corporate bodies to support government efforts in developing sports, by sponsoring events at the grassroots and school level.

While speaking in his capacity as a MILO brand ambassador, Musa also explained that his partnership with Nestlé was aimed at reviving attention to school sports and youth participation, thereby creating opportunities for children to develop their sporting abilities.

“Nigeria is blessed with abundant football talent, but young players require adequate support, encouragement and platforms to develop their skills and contribute to the country’s sporting success. That’s why I commend Nestlé MILO for their continued investment in sports development.

“I urge other corporate organisations to emulate the company by supporting grassroots sports programmes. Greater involvement in sponsoring grassroots sporting activities would help identify, nurture and develop young football talents for future international competitions,” Musa said.

Sports247 reports further that the former VV Venlo of Netherlands, CSKA Moscow of Russia and Leicester City of England star announced a personal cash prize of N1.8m for the top three teams; with N1m for the champions, while runners-up will get N500,000 and third-placed takes N300,000.
