Galatasaray of Turkey striker Victor James Osimhen has admitted that he has a strong desire to play in the English Premier League, but stressed that ongoing talk about him moving to Arsenal this summer is nothing but ‘rumours’ that always hug the transfer periods.
Sports247 recalls that it was back in 2023 when Osimhen first declared his ambition to one day feature in the EPL, and he appeared to feel unfulfilled in his career, though at that time he was on fire with SSC Napoli of Italy and helped them win the Serie A title.
Dramatically, the 2023 African Footballer of the Year was soon linked to Chelsea, with several reports indicating that two of The Blues’ African legends – John Mikel Obi and Didier Drogba – were pushing Osimhen closer to Stamford Bridge, but Napoli snubbed all offers.
Osimhen eventually had to leave Naples under a storm and got his saving grace at Galatasaray after walking uncelebrated out of Napoli, but following two glorious seasons at his current base in Istanbul, fresh talk about a move to London has erupted – this time it’s Arsenal, not Chelsea.
However, rather than jump at the opportunity to finally see his EPL dream come true, Osimhen is playing saving, acting cagey and seemingly showing loyalty to Gala, who saved his career from a period of abeyance when Napoli shut him out of their first team and gave his shirt to Romelu Lukaku.
In apparent appreciation of that gesture, Osimhen has opted to parry all talk about the possibility of him moving to Emirates Stadium this summer, choosing instead to leave his options open, even as he confessed that playing in England’s top-flight glamour league remains a personal target for him.
Osimhen opted to keep mum on the Arsenal link, as he said: “There are always rumours in transfer seasons. I will take care of my business. I am focused on my job, then we will see and think further. I think playing in one of the top five leagues in the world is an amazing feeling for me.
“A lot of people worldwide consider the Premier League as the best and the strongest league. I’m working so hard to make sure that I achieve my dream of playing in the Premier League someday, but it’s a process, and I just want to keep on this momentum and continue to do well.”
