Former Super Eagles striker Daniel ‘The Bull’ Amokachi turned up as an ‘educator of budding talents’ at this year’s Springsoca United Academy Mainland Summer Camp at Legacy Pitch of Lagos National Stadium in Surulere, where he told all participants the values of discipline.
Sports247 reports that Amokachi harped on the need for young players to maintain discipline in their daily activities and training schedules, while also pointing out that they need diligence, dedicated efforts, and continuous activities to keep them focused on developing their talents.
The former national team star, who burst into the limelight as a key player with Ranchers Bees FC of Kaduna while still in secondary school, also expressed satisfaction with the large turnout of kids at the week-long camp, while also hailing their levels of commitment and performances.
‘Amo-Taxi’ noted further that the youth development programme, which was tagged ‘Legends Meet Future Stars,’ brought together young players for intensive technical, tactical and physical training, alongside mentorship and character-development sessions.
The former Club Brugge of Belgium, Besiktas of Turkey and Everton of England star, who served as Camp Ambassador, added that talent alone is not enough to build a successful football career, then stressed the need for discipline, consistency, education, teamwork and strong mentality.
He posited, “What has impressed me most is the turnout, the attitude of the players and their willingness to learn. You can see that these young footballers are hungry to improve, and that is exactly what a development camp should encourage.
“Football is not only about talent. Young players must understand the importance of discipline, investment, hard work, respect and continuous learning. If they combine their natural ability with the right guidance and attitude, they can go a long way.”
