Dinice Royal captain Tony Chukwuma has attributed his side’s success at the Island AllStars Sports Club International Above-45 Football Tournament to unity, discipline and an unwavering commitment to the collective goal.
Speaking exclusively to Sports247 after Dinice Royal were crowned champions following a dramatic comeback victory over Network Times in the grand finale, Chukwuma said the team’s ability to remain united, even during difficult moments on the pitch, has been the foundation of their success.
“The truth about the whole team is playing with one mind, one voice, irrespective of any disagreement on the field. We don’t allow such to take over. That’s the brain behind our comebacks and getting the victory,” Chukwuma said.
Dinice Royal demonstrated that fighting spirit in the final, recovering from a 1-0 deficit late in the game to force a 1-1 draw before eventually securing the championship.
The captain also addressed the remarkable achievement of the squad despite having several players aged 60 and above. According to him, age has never been allowed to become a barrier to team success.
Chukwuma explained that the team had to compete with the players available after several members travelled the previous week, before some experienced campaigners returned for the decisive stages.
“The SMC of Island AllStars Sports Club selected the teams as most of our players travelled last week. We played with what we have and won. Some are back this week with a lot of experience in the game.”
For the Dinice Royal skipper, the secret extends beyond individual quality or age. He believes unity and concentration remain essential ingredients for success in veteran football.
“Irrespective of age, we need to be united and focused for team success.”
Chukwuma also praised the Island All Stars Sports Club management, particularly the Strategic Management Committee (SMC), for continuing to introduce new ideas and projects.
He described the club as an organisation that has consistently embraced innovation and expressed confidence that bigger initiatives are ahead.
“Island All Stars Sports Club has been a very great club with different strategies and projects every year. I believe the SMC is planning something bigger ahead. I appreciate them for new innovation all the time.”
With Dinice Royal now celebrating another major triumph, Chukwuma’s message is clear: age may define the category, but unity, experience and a shared mentality continue to define the champions.
