The Nigeria National League (NNL) has officially announced Owerri, the Imo State capital, as the host city for its 17th Annual General Meeting (AGM), a key event that will usher in preparations for the 2026/27 football season.
Sports247 reports that the announcement was made by the league’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), Mr. Danlami Alanana, who disclosed that the Executive Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, had approved the league’s request to stage the important gathering in the Eastern Heartland.
According to Alanana, the NNL is delighted to have secured the support of the Imo State Government in hosting one of the league’s most significant annual events.
“We are delighted that the sports-loving Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, has magnanimously approved NNL’s request to host our AGM in Owerri. This is one of the most important events in our calendar,” Alanana said.
The Annual General Meeting is scheduled to take place on Friday, August 21, 2026, with all 36 participating NNL clubs expected to arrive in Owerri on Thursday, August 20, before departing on Saturday, August 22, 2026.
The AGM will also attract top officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), led by President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau and General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, alongside club owners, administrators and other major stakeholders in Nigerian football.
Although the exact venue for the meeting is yet to be announced, the NNL Secretariat has advised all participating clubs to take note of the dates and host state as preparations gather pace.
Several key issues affecting the forthcoming campaign are expected to dominate deliberations, including the roadmap for the 2026/27 season, club licensing regulations, competition framework and possible amendments to the league’s rules and regulations.
Alanana also expressed appreciation to Governor Uzodimma for supporting the growth of Nigerian football and investing in youth development through sports.
“We can’t thank the Governor enough for his love for the game and the youths of this country. Little wonder Imo keeps producing numerous outstanding sports stars,” he added.
The previous edition of the NNL Annual General Meeting was hosted by the Kaduna State Government at the 5th Chukker Resort in Maraban Jos, Kaduna State. With Owerri now preparing to welcome the nation’s second-tier league stakeholders, expectations are high for another successful AGM ahead of what promises to be an exciting 2026/27 season.
