Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government’s Summer Camp For Students Begins On Monday At ‘Maracana Stadium’

Emerges only African nation in top 10 of overall medal table

A much-talked about summer camp for students, organised by Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government of Lagos State is scheduled to begin this Monday at Maracana Stadium, Olodi-Apapa, Sports247 reports.

This was disclosed by a member of the local government’s sports council, Coach Michael Adebayo, who revealed that 300 students are expected to benefit from the programme that will include training sessions in football and basketball.

Adebayo, who is an efficient, renowned and long-standing youth sports organiser at the popular arena that is also known as ‘Big Field,’ added that all students attending the programme will receive daily feeding, among many other benefits.

He thanked Nathaniel Idowu Foundation for throwing its weight fully behind the project, which is open to students in the age range of U10 to U17, with training sessions billed to take place on a daily basis at the popular arena that was recently upgraded to a sports complex.

Adebayo, who is also a board member of Badagry Division Football Association (BDFA), added in an exclusive interview with Sports247: “I used to organise grassroots football competitions on my own at Maracana Field, but now I’m working for Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government, and I’m happy with what we have been able to achieve.

“All of us on the board are accountable to the director-general, Mr McAnthony Amaelechukwu, who is our leader and always comes up with great ideas that we will fully support him to achieve.

“I got to this position by virtue of the many achievements that I had with Maracana D
Sports Organisation, among which was successfully staging Cowbell Cup, from 1996 to 1998, and Chemiron Super-8 Cup, which AJ Lichester won on two occasions.

“I am no longer organising grassroots sports on my own, as I now work with a group in the Ajeromi-Ifelodun sports board. I am happy that our summer camp will start on Monday and it promises to be highly rewarding for all the participants.”

Sports247 gathered that all 300 students who are expected to turn up at the venue this Monday will also be handed various types of kit that they will use during the duration of the camp, which will keep them busy all through the long holiday for schools in Lagos State.
