Nigeria’s Super Falcons have finally secured their first pre-tournament friendly ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco after several unsuccessful attempts to arrange warm-up matches.
The defending African champions have faced a disrupted build-up to the tournament, with planned friendlies against Ghana and Tanzania previously failing to materialise, raising concerns about the team’s preparations for the continental showpiece.
However, camp sources have now confirmed that the Super Falcons will take on Tanzania in an international friendly in Casablanca on Thursday.
The match is scheduled to kick off at 6:00 p.m. local time and is expected to provide head coach Justine Madugu with an important opportunity to assess his squad ahead of Nigeria’s title defence.
The friendly comes as a welcome boost for the nine-time African champions, who have been intensifying preparations in Morocco after arriving in Casablanca for the tournament.
With WAFCON 2026 fast approaching, the encounter against Tanzania will allow the coaching crew to fine-tune tactics, improve match fitness, and build cohesion within the squad before Nigeria begins its campaign.
The Super Falcons are aiming to retain their continental crown and extend their record as Africa’s most successful women’s national team.
Thursday’s fixture is expected to be the team’s only confirmed warm-up match before they open their WAFCON 2026 campaign later this month.
