Golf Players, Stakeholders, Sponsors, Fans Look Forward To Busy Schedule Of Domestic Events In August

Golf players, stakeholders, sponsors and fans, as well as commercial service providers at various venues across Nigeria, are looking forward to a busy schedule in August, with a series of events and competitions set to roll all through the eighth month.

Sports247 gathered that, while several minor and less publicised events are part of Nigeria’s August golf calendar, three venues will be most prominently followed during the month, ahead of which registrations, preparation and hype have already begun.

Leading the roll call of highly anticipated competitions, charity events and community gatherings in the sport is Society Golf Day Nigeria, which will come up on Saturday, August 15th in Calabar, Coss River State.

The event, which will take place at Calabar Golf Club, inside Eburutu Military Cantonment, is an 18-hole competition, during which participants contest in four categories for first, second and third place, plus a special prize for ‘closest to the pin’ on hole 14.

Registration is set to end on August 14th for this competition, which is regarded as ‘a great community gathering, featuring lunch after the kitty and complimentary eye checks provided by St. Cecilia Clinic.’

Attention will then shift to Cece’s Birthday Charity Golf Kitty in Abuja on August 22nd, as Tukur Yusuf Buratai (TYB) International Golf Resort comes alive with a special charity event organised to create awareness about Menstrual Health Hygiene.

The competiiton, which will be hosted by an iconic golfer and advocate of healthy living fondly called ‘Cece,’ aims to use the ‘sports of gentlemen’ in raising awareness and soliciting for funds to improve access to menstrual products for young girls, while keeping them confident and in school.

It will be followed by Oluyole Amateur Golf Open in Ibadan, Oyo State from August 22nd to 24th, bringing together over 200 golfers from across Nigeria and Africa in what is tagged ‘one of the premier amateur events in the region.’

The event, which will hold at Ibadan Golf Club, attracts elite players and has sponsorship from corporate bodies like Open Field Properties, RiseVest as well as Heineken, while liasing with local golfing communities and club platforms such as St Patrick’s Missionary Society.
