Organisers of the prestigious Spires 5-A-Side Naija Street Soccer Championship have turned their focus towards the Lagos State finals billed to take place in November, which the competition’s initiator, Dr Bankole Allibay promised will be a huge event.
Sports247 reports that Dr Allibay disclosed the next line of action for the competition while exuding lots of excitement over what he referred to as a very successful organisation of the divisional qualifiers, which ended last weekend, with ASDI Academy winning the contest in Ikeja zone.
Allibay was all smiles, while watching Coach Richard Moses’ side trounce Wasola FC 7-4 during the Ikeja divisional final at EL Cesped Pitch, Opebi, while Blood & Sand FC mauled Zion FC 8-1 in the third place match; but all three teams will represent Ikeja division at the state level.
Elijah Imole of Blood & Sand FC won the top scorer’s award and cash price of N50,000 with six goals, while his team got N100,000 for emerging as the competition’s third best side, with N500,000 handed over to ASDI Academy as the winners and N300,000 to Wasola FC for placing second.
At the end of the presentations, Allibay, who is an environment sustenance, social developement and governance (ESG) expert, admitted that he was excited with the successful completion of all divisional qualifiers of the competition and promised better organisation at the state championship level.
“I believe we were able to tick all the boxes across the five divisions. We set out for top-class divisional qualifiers in March and this we were able to achieve. Our focus is now on the state championship in November. We have our 16 finalists across the five divisions of Lagos.
“So, football fans should expect a top class event in the third season of the Spires 5-A-Side Naija Street Soccer Tournament,” Allibay projeted, while rating high season three of the competition’s qualifying campaign in the state’s five divisions – Ikorodu, Epe, Lagos Island, Badagry and Ikeja.
