Sports247 reports that, although the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup gold medalist and most valuable player got his careeer back on tract in winning the Scottish Premiership and FA Cup double with Celtic last season, he is not in a hurry to sign the dotted lines.
Speculation is rife that the 29-year-old Iheanacho, who was produced by Taye Football Academy of Owerri and started his overseas career on loan from Man City at Columbus Crew of USA, is considering other options in the summer transfer window.
However, Celtic’s manager, Martin O’Neill confirmed that the Glasgow-based side have extended a new offer to Iheanacho, who joined The Hoops last summer on a year’s deal that included an option for one extra season – but the extension clause expired in June.
That expiration means Iheanacho had to head into fresh negotiations with The Bhoys, following which O’Neill has come out with a revelation that they have offered him a new contract, with a plan to keep the former Super Eagles’ star, though he is reportedly believed to have interest from elsewhere.
“There’s an offer there to keep him at this minute. So, we’ll see how that develops,” O’Neill confirmed, while speaking to reporters during Celtic’s pre-season training camp in Portugal, where he also admitted that the club is awaiting Iheanacho’s positive decision.
