The former midfielder believes Nigeria must learn from the disappointment of missing the 2022 and 2026 FIFA World Cups, stressing that the country’s recent struggles underline the importance of proper preparation and consistency.
Fuludu’s comments come as the Super Eagles continue rebuilding under head coach Eric Chelle, with attention gradually turning towards the 2030 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and upcoming continental assignments.
“There are no small teams in football anymore. Every country has improved, and if you don’t prepare properly, you’ll be punished,” Fuludu said.
The former Super Eagles star pointed to the performances of several so-called underdogs at recent international tournaments as evidence that the gap between nations has narrowed considerably.
According to Fuludu, Nigeria cannot rely solely on its football pedigree or individual talent but must earn victories through hard work, tactical discipline and thorough preparation.
“We have already paid the price for not getting things right. The Super Eagles must fight for every point and every victory because nothing comes easy in international football today,” he added.
Nigeria has failed to qualify for the last two FIFA World Cups and has also endured disappointment in recent Africa Cup of Nations campaigns despite boasting one of the continent’s most talented player pools.
As preparations continue for future qualifiers and international fixtures, Fuludu believes maintaining the right mentality and respecting every opponent will be crucial if the Super Eagles are to return to competing consistently among Africa’s leading football nations.
