Shooting Stars Sports Club Technical Adviser, Nurudeen Aweroro, has thrown his weight behind the Nigeria Football Federation’s decision to hand Super Eagles head coach Eric Sékou Chelle a dual role, describing the move as a positive step for the development of Nigerian football.
Aweroro made the remarks in an exclusive interview with Sports247 during the colourful appreciation ceremony held in honour of veteran football administrator Chief Olaseinde Bankole (Zico) at the Oba Moshood Alani Oyede Mini Stadium, Joju, Sango-Ota.

The event, organised by the Leventis Joju Area Sports Committee in conjunction with Office Affair Project, celebrated Bankole’s immense contributions to grassroots football through novelty matches, tributes, and award presentations.
Speaking on the Nigeria Football Federation’s decision to expand Chelle’s responsibilities, Aweroro expressed confidence in the Malian tactician’s ability to successfully manage both assignments.
“I think it is a good idea,” Aweroro told Sports247.
“Eric Chelle has been trying his best with the main Super Eagles team. He has worked with most of the players already, and I believe that is the rightful decision by the Nigeria Football Federation.”
The experienced coach believes Chelle’s familiarity with the national team setup will be a major advantage as he takes on additional responsibilities, insisting that continuity will benefit Nigerian football in the long run.
“Resuming with the team and getting the job done is what comes next,” he added.
The NFF’s decision has continued to generate debate among football stakeholders, with supporters arguing that the arrangement will promote continuity in the national team structure, while critics have questioned the workload attached to the dual appointment.
Aweroro, however, remains optimistic that Chelle possesses the experience and understanding needed to deliver positive results as Nigeria prepares for upcoming international competitions.
His endorsement adds to the growing conversation surrounding the future direction of the Super Eagles under Chelle’s leadership, as expectations remain high for improved performances on both the continental and global stages.
