Nigerian professional golfer, Solomon Ideriah is relishing his second place finish in the opening round of the 2026 Absa Invitational at Nyali Golf & Country Club in Mombasa, Kenya after carding a 2-under par 69, Sports247 reports.
Ideriah is one of the many international stars featuring at the three-day competition, which has attracted a strong field of 80 golfers from nine countries, further underlining the growing stature of the Tour as East Africa’s global pathway to professional golf.

He is also part of a very strong Nigerian contingent that also has Sunday Olapade, Godwin Okoko, Kamalu Bako, Ajayi Tajudeen and Eze Monday, playing alongside top golfers from Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, United States, United Kingdom and India, reflecting the Tour’s growing international appeal.
The field comprises seasoned professionals, elite amateurs, junior golfers and lady professionals, all competing for a share of the KES 2 million prize, valuable Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points, World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points and Sunshine Development Tour Order of Merit points.
Sunshine Development Tour-East Africa Swing CEO, David Ndung’u noted, “The competition has continued to improve from one event to the next, and that is exactly what we hoped to achieve by bringing the Sunshine Development Tour to East Africa.
“Nyali has produced some memorable moments on the Sunshine Development Tour, including Njoroge Kibugu’s victory here last season. We have another outstanding field this year.
“With the quality of players competing, we expect another exciting and closely contested tournament. Every tournament is producing new contenders and giving players valuable opportunities to compete for world ranking points and progression to the Sunshine Tour.”
Sports247 gathered further that Solomon is the head of golf professionals at Ideriah Integrated Service Limited in Port Harcourt and a member of Professional Golfers Association of Nigeria (PGAN), who regularly competes on the West Africa Golf Tour and Sunshine Development Tour.
His feat in East Africa marks yet another stride forward for Ideriah, who had also earlier tied for second at level par during this year’s Sunshine Development Tour West Africa Qualifying School at Lakowe Lakes Golf Estate in April.
