Super Falcons head coach Justin Madugu has defended the inclusion of experienced players in Nigeria’s women’s national team, insisting that age should not be viewed the same way in women’s football as it is in the men’s game.

Speaking on squad selection, Madugu explained that experience often plays a bigger role in women’s football, especially at major international tournaments.
“Experience remains a very important asset in women’s football,” Madugu said.
According to the coach, many people make unfair comparisons between men’s and women’s football when discussing player age and performance.
“There are misconceptions when people compare the two games,” he implied.
Madugu stressed that experienced players often bring leadership, composure, tactical understanding and decision-making qualities that can prove decisive in big matches.
“Mature players contribute much more than what people see on the pitch,” he noted.
The Super Falcons boss also pointed out that many of the world’s top women’s football nations continue to rely on players in their 30s and even close to 40 years old.
“Experience remains valuable at the highest level of women’s football,” he added.
Madugu emphasized the need to maintain a healthy balance between experienced stars and younger talents within the squad.
“The older players help guide and mentor the next generation,” he stressed.
Nigeria continue preparing for upcoming international competitions with a blend of seasoned veterans and emerging talents.
“The balance between youth and experience could be one of the team’s biggest strengths,” many football observers believe.
