Army, Navy, Air Force Handed Formal Invitation To Feature In NRFF’s Military Rugby Sevens League

A formal invitation has been handed to top brass of the Nigerian armed forces for members of the navy, air forces and army to feature in the forthcoming inaugural military/paramilitary rugby sevens league, Sports247 reports.

The official invitation was handed out by the president of Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRF), Dr Ademola Are during a visit to Defence Headquarters director of sports, Air Vice Marshal Abidemi Timothy Marquis.

During the meeting, at which Air Vice Marshal Marquis was represented by deputy director of physical training, Air Commodore Samuel Osoniyi, Are commended the Nigerian military for its efforts in tackling insecurity across the country.

He also praised the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede, for his leadership and innovative initiatives, then appealed for support of Defence Headquarters to ensure the army, navy and air force’s participation in the league.

While making a case for their presence in the competition, Are asserted, “Rugby promotes mental toughness, discipline and physical fitness. That’s why our federation is committed to supporting members of the armed forces through sports.”
