CAF Coaching Convention: Terry Eguaoje Says Nigeria’s Return Will Transform Coach Development

Head of Coaching Education at the Nigeria Football Federation, Terry Eguaoje, has described Nigeria’s return to the CAF A coaching convention as a major breakthrough for football development in the country.

Speaking on the development, Eguaoje explained that Nigeria had remained active within CAF’s D and C licence programmes, but admitted the absence of the CAF A licence course for almost nine years was unacceptable for a major football nation.

“It was not acceptable for Nigeria to stay without the CAF A course for so long,” Eguaoje said.

According to the coaching education expert, the return of the programme will help improve the standard of coaching across both domestic football and the national teams.

“This is a major boost for coaching development,” he implied.

Eguaoje stressed that better coaching structures are essential for improving player development at all levels of Nigerian football.

“Educating coaches improves football overall,” he noted.

The NFF official also expressed optimism that more Nigerian coaches will now have access to advanced training opportunities without needing to travel abroad.

“More coaches will benefit from the programme now,” he added.

Nigeria’s re-admission into the CAF A convention has been welcomed widely within football circles as an important step toward strengthening technical development nationwide.

“This is long overdue,” many stakeholders believe.

Eguaoje believes the long-term impact of the programme will eventually reflect positively across both the men’s and women’s game.

“The entire football structure stands to benefit,” he stressed.

For the NFF coaching education department, the message is clear.

Develop the coaches properly.

Strengthen technical education.

And improve football standards nationwide.

Because successful football nations are built on strong coaching foundations.
