Former Super Eagles winger Tijani Babangida has described the upcoming international friendly matches as an important opportunity for Nigeria to continue rebuilding the national team following the last Africa Cup of Nations campaign.
Speaking on the direction of the Super Eagles under Eric Chelle, Babangida said the team showed enough quality at the last AFCON to have qualified for the FIFA World Cup if they had maintained the same level consistently.

“If we played like that consistently, we would have qualified,” he said.
According to the former winger, the focus now should be on continuing the rebuilding process while maintaining continuity within the squad.
“This is the time to rebuild properly,” he implied.
Babangida stressed that the friendly matches will provide the technical crew with a valuable chance to assess performances and identify weak areas within the team.
“The games will help expose areas that need improvement,” he noted.
The former international also urged the coaching staff to remain patient and committed to the rebuilding process rather than making constant drastic changes.
“There must be continuity,” he added.
For Babangida, the Super Eagles still possess enough talent to become one of Africa’s strongest teams again if the rebuilding is managed properly.
