Fulham of England midfielder, Alex Iwobi has expressed sympathy for players in one of his former clubs, Arsenal, as he believes they are under pressure to win the English Premier League title this season, Sports247 reports.
Iwobi, who captained Arsenal’s under-21 squad during his formative years, acknowledged that a lot of pressure was on Arsenal’s players before Sunday’s clash with Manchester City at Etihad Stadium, which The Gunners lost 2-1.

Iwobi, who played for Everton after leaving Arsenal, recalled how pressure usually escalates in the London-based club’s camp any time a big match is at hand, as the coaches are always desperate to get good results, thereby causing distractions in the squad.
The Super Eagles’ dazzler pushed aside his personal worries, following an injury he copped during Saturday’s draw with Brentford, and spoke about the additional level of pressure Arsenal players will be facing now that City lie just three points behind them.
While noting that Sunday’s game was quite decisive in determining if Arsenal will win the EPL title this season, Iwobi declared that there will be intense expectations from the players in their remaining games, as they come further under the spotlight.
Iwobi, who played 149 senior games for Arsenal after coming through their Hale End Academy and was part of their FA Cup winning squad of 2017, hopes his former side will secure the EPL title for the first time in 22 years, but admitted it will not come easy.
The Gunners are now only three points ahead of City, who have a game in hand, heading into Wednesday’s fixture away to Burnley, and 29-year-old Iwobi said during a chat with Nigerian-born former striker, Adebayo Akinfenwa that the lads must stay focused despite all pressure.
Iwobi, who left The Gunners for Everton in the summer of 2019, told Akinfenwa’s Beast Mode On Podcast, “I can see the difference. At Arsenal you get noticed for anything. They will use you as a scapegoat. I never go out two days before a game.”
