Super Eagles’ midfielder, Frank Onyeka has received warm words of commendation from his coach at Coventry City of England, Frank Lampard, following his first goal for the English Championship outfit.
Sports247 gathered that Lampard was delighted that Onyeka scored during Friday’s victory over Derby County, which the Chelsea of England legend noted was the reward of long hours of effort and commitment.

Lampard admitted he was excited seeing Onyeka open scoring for Coventry in a 3-2 victory that took their side top of the second-tier league’s table and within eight points of ending their 25-year absence from the English Premier League.
Onyeka opened scoring with his first Coventry goal before Rudoni restored their lead after Brereton Diaz headed in the first equaliser and then netted the winner 10 minutes from time to extend The Sky Blues’ lead on the table to 11 points.
The victory makes it eight wins from nine for Coventry, who could secure promotion back to the top flight within the next fortnight and, while also hailing all his players, Lampard mentioned Onyeka in particular.
The former FC Midtjylland of Denmark battler, who joined Coventry in February, on loan from Brentford, won possession before playing a one-two with Romain Esse on the right and then curled a shot into the top corner.
Rudoni then hit his sixth and seventh goals of the campaign to help The Sky Blues move 12 points clear of third-standing Middlesbrough and 14 points above fourth-placed Ipswich Town, although The Tractor Boys have two games in hand.
Afterwards, Lampard reflected on his side’s victory and submitted that it was motivated by Onyeka’s spectacular opening goal on 12 minutes, in front of a crowd of 31,341 spectators at The Coventry Building Society Arena.
“I felt a goal was coming for Frank, he’s quite hungry to get in there and got the capacity to arrive and shoot but it was a fantastic goal. I felt like it affected our performance in the first half because it’s good to go 1-0 up in a tense part of the season.
“It can sometimes make you take less risk and think ‘let’s see this through;’ but it was not us at our best. So, there was a lot to be said at halftime. I’m delighted for the players that came on. We’ve worked hard as a squad,” Lampard posited.
