‘Titles Must Be Won on the Pitch!’ Udi Slams CAF Over Morocco AFCON Decision

Former Nigeria international Duke Udi has criticised the decision by the Confederation of African Football to award the AFCON 2025 Title to Morocco national team following their appeal against Senegal national team.

Udi argued that football trophies should always be decided on the field of play, not through administrative rulings after the final whistle.

“Titles should be won on the pitch,” Udi said.

The former midfielder pointed out that Senegal had already celebrated the victory and lifted the trophy, making the later decision to reverse the outcome even more controversial.

“They had already celebrated and received the trophy,” he added.

According to Udi, awarding a title off the pitch reduces its significance and emotional value, both for players and fans.

“It diminishes the value of the trophy,” he stated.

He emphasized that the true essence of football lies in competing, winning, and celebrating success in front of supporters, not through decisions taken after the game.

Udi concluded by urging football authorities to ensure that future competitions are managed in a way that preserves the integrity of the sport and avoids similar controversies.
