Rivers United Coach Yemi Daniel Olanrewaju, has publicly thrown his support behind Nigerian midfielder Daniel Daga following the youngster’s recent legal troubles in Norway.
Daga, a former Flying Eagles captain who currently plays for Molde FK, was reportedly sentenced on March 10, 2026, by the Nordmøre and Romsdal District Court to six months in prison for committing a sexual act without consent.

However, the player’s legal representatives have maintained that the encounter was consensual and confirmed that the verdict will be appealed, meaning the ruling is not yet legally binding.
Coach Yemi Olanrewaju worked with Daniel Daga closely back in 2024 while he was in Enyimba.
Reacting to the development, Olanrewaju—popularly known as Coach Yema shared an emotional message encouraging the young midfielder to remain strong despite the ongoing challenges and controversy.
Coach Yema wrote on via his social media handle :
“My Daniel Daga, if the whole world judges and turns against you, I, Yema, won’t. We are all human beings and have all made mistakes. It is not the end of your life or career. It is a bitter lesson that came early to make you a better person and human being.”
The Rivers United coach further urged Daga to remain focused, stressing that the difficult moment could still become a turning point in his life and career.
“You are a fighter and a warrior. Stay strong and focus. The remaining sun can still dry enough clothes. I will never desert any of my loyal players during their trial and challenging time.”
Following the court ruling, Molde FK suspended Daga from all training and match activities pending further developments in the case.
Daga’s lawyer has since confirmed that the decision will be challenged in the Norwegian legal system, with the appeal expected to determine the final outcome of the case.
The Nigerian midfielder, who turned 18 in 2025 before signing his first professional contract with Molde, had been widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s brightest young football prospects prior to the incident.
