Elonu, who was named Most Valuable Player at the 2021 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket, expressed confidence in the current squad and urged them to continue representing Nigeria with pride.
“Everyone is excited to see the team play again,” Elonu said.
The experienced forward noted that the players have already demonstrated their quality and talent through their previous achievements on the international stage.
“They have come this far because of their talent and the hard work they put in,” she added.
Elonu encouraged the team to maintain the same determination and unity that has helped them dominate African women’s basketball in recent years.
“They should just keep doing the good job they’ve been doing,” she said.
The basketball star also took time to acknowledge the efforts of the coaching staff and support team, praising their role in guiding the squad.
“My best wishes also go to the coaches and everyone working behind the scenes,” she noted.
Elonu believes the current generation of D’Tigress players has the ability to continue making Nigeria proud on the global stage.
“They have everything it takes to keep flying the Nigerian flag high,” she stated.
D’Tigress remain one of Africa’s most successful women’s basketball teams and will be aiming to build on their recent achievements as they pursue qualification for the upcoming FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.
Elonu concluded by expressing confidence that the team will approach the qualifiers with the same winning mentality that has defined Nigerian women’s basketball in recent years.
“I believe they will give their best and make the country proud,” she said.
