Arokodare, who featured briefly in Wolves’ previous outing, was handed an extended run in the second half as Edwards sought a breakthrough in a tense, goalless encounter.

The striker’s physical presence and intelligent hold-up play proved pivotal, particularly in his duel with Virgil van Dijk, which led directly to the opening goal scored by Rodrigo Gomes.

Liverpool responded swiftly through Mohamed Salah, who drew the visitors level minutes later.

However, Wolves maintained their intensity and were rewarded deep into stoppage time when Brazilian midfielder André Trindade fired home a deflected effort that beat Alisson Becker, sealing a dramatic win.

Speaking after the match, Edwards admitted the substitutions were largely instinctive rather than pre-planned, but expressed satisfaction with the outcome.

“We had a plan, but sometimes you have to adjust in the heat of the game,” Edwards said.

“The timing of the substitutions wasn’t exactly what we set out, but it was about finding a way to win.

“The impact from the substitutes was excellent, and the players who started the game also gave everything.”

Despite securing back-to-back Premier League victories for the first time this season, Wolves remain rooted near the bottom of the table.

Edwards and his squad will be targeting a strong run of results in the coming fixtures as they battle to climb out of the relegation zone.
