Morella Admits Nnadozie’s Absence for WAFCON Will Be Felt

Brighton & Hove Albion Women’s goalkeeping coach Ben Morella has admitted the club will miss the quality and leadership of Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie when she departs for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Nnadozie is expected to link up with the Super Falcons next month as Nigeria prepares to defend its continental title, leaving Brighton to temporarily adjust in her absence.

Speaking about the Nigerian shot-stopper’s impact at the club, Morella praised her professionalism and growing influence within the squad.

“We’re definitely going to miss her while she’s away,” Morella said. “Chiamaka brings quality, confidence and experience to the team. She has helped elevate our standards.”

The Brighton coach highlighted Nnadozie’s composure under pressure and her strong command of the penalty area, describing her as a key figure in the team’s defensive organisation.

“She’s not just a shot-stopper. She communicates well, organizes the back line and gives the defenders confidence,” he explained.

Morella acknowledged that WAFCON is an important assignment for Nnadozie and expressed support for her international commitments.

“It’s a big tournament for her and for Nigeria. We fully support her representing her country. That’s part of having top international players,” he said.

While admitting that replacing her presence will not be easy, Morella insisted Brighton are preparing solutions to cope during her absence.

“We have other goalkeepers who are working hard, and this is an opportunity for them to step up. We’ll adjust and manage the situation,” he added.

Nnadozie’s performances since joining Brighton have drawn praise for consistency and maturity, with Morella noting that her experience at both club and international levels continues to positively influence the squad.

“You can already see the impact she’s having. Her standards are high, and that pushes everyone around her,” he concluded.

Brighton will now balance their domestic campaign while Nnadozie aims to add another continental title to her growing résumé with Nigeria.
