James Thompson Delighted With Silver Medal Win at Niger Delta Sports Festival

Para powerlifter James Thompson has expressed gratitude after clinching a silver medal in the Men’s 65kg category while representing Akwa Ibom State at the ongoing Niger Delta Sports Festival Edo 2026 in Benin City.

Thompson lifted 131kg to secure second place on the podium, marking a strong start to his 2026 campaign and underlining his consistency on the national para powerlifting scene.

Reacting to his achievement, the athlete described the medal as a positive way to begin the year and thanked those who have supported him throughout his journey.

“Beginning the year with a silver medal in the Para Powerlifting Men’s 65kg category, lifting 131kg for Akwa Ibom State at the ongoing Niger Delta Sports Festival Edo 2026 in Benin City,” he said.

“Thank you to all my supporters. Thank you, NDDC.”

James’ performance adds to Akwa Ibom State’s medal haul at the festival, with the para powerlifting events continuing to produce standout displays of strength and determination.

The silver medal also serves as encouragement for the powerlifter as he targets further success in upcoming competitions later in the year.
