Sports247 reports that the Nigerian-born England international brushed aside ‘lack of faith’ in his ability from Arsenal’s coach, Mikel Arteta, as he lifted The Gunners’ to victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Eze’s two goals in Arsenal’s 4-1 away victory in the North London derby was reminiscent of his hat-trick against the same squad in the first round of the ongoing season, and Arteta admitted he had underrated the dazzler.
However, while many pundits insist that everyone except Arteta knew all along that Eze had what it takes to keep The Gunners’ English Premier League title charge on course, the lad is staying humble about his acumen.
Rather than bask in all the euphoria and banter words with Arteta for not believing in him, the former Queens Park Rangers and Crystal Palace ace quickly points out that it was his faith in Jesus that helped him overcome the odds.
A report by UK’s SunSport added, “Eze’s unshakeable faith has been something to admire during these difficult months. Instead of beating himself up over his form, he grew closer to God.
“The Gunners midfielder is a familiar face at King’s Church in Catford, where his standing in society and strong faith have earned him the respect of even the church elders, despite his young age.
“Eze is always one of the last to leave the Arsenal training ground in London Colney. Eze’s faith is strong, he keeps a Bible in his car, one at home, and one in the locker room.
“He reads a verse in the Bible every morning before training and after training, he stays behind to read more. If the schedule permits, he heads to midweek church services in Catford.
“When The Gunners play on Saturday, Eze and his wife are almost always the first to attend church on Sunday. Throughout January, the Arsenal midfielder combined a 21-day fast with his professional commitments.
“At the peak of the doubts surrounding his form, Eze remained calm, stuck to his routine, and held on tight, knowing he was not far from producing the kind of performance he gave against Spurs.”
Eze had also disclosed in an earlier post to the podcast ‘New Balance’ online: “I want them to say that, ‘In everything he did, he glorified Jesus.’ That’s my only mission, if I’m honest.”
