Alli revealed that over ₦200 million has been earmarked for athletes’ training and development ahead of the Games, which will take place from 23 July to 2 August 2026.
He explained that the new approach moves away from last-minute funding to a more structured and sustainable system.
“We are categorising athletes into two groups and ensuring they are paid during preparation, not just before competition,” Alli said. “The old approach is outdated, and we believe this new system will help athletes focus fully on performance.”
According to him, trevampedhe structure will allow for better monitoring, accountability and motivation, ultimately translating to stronger performances on the international stage.
“With this level of preparation, we are confident Nigeria will record improved results in Glasgow,” he added.
The National Sports Commission believes the streamlined funding and preparation model will give Nigerian athletes a competitive edge as they aim for podium finishes at the 2026 Games.
