Moshood Abiola Stadium Buzzes as NOGIG 2026 Day 5 Features Swimming, Volleyball, Tennis and More

The Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja came alive as the 20th Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Games (NOGIG 2026) entered Day 5, with athletes from participating companies competing fiercely across multiple sports.

Volleyball, tennis, squash, table tennis, scrabble, chess, and swimming dominated activities at Package B of the stadium.

The Olympic-size swimming pool drew the largest crowds, with spectators cheering their teams passionately as swimmers went all out for medals.

Swimming Highlights

In the women’s 50 metres breaststroke, Meghan Perry of NLNG clinched gold with a time of 1 minute 5 seconds. Anita Adu (NNPC) secured silver, while Ugochi Akwiwu (NNPC) earned bronze.

In the men’s 50 metres breaststroke, Henrik Smith (NLNG) took gold, Boyo Joseph (Chevron) silver, and Jesufemi Dayo-Odukoya (NNPC) bronze.

Pretty Newton of NCDMB triumphed in the women’s 50 metres butterfly, followed by Cherish Ofeoritse (NLNG) and Edevuya Ekanem (NNPC). Men’s 50 metres butterfly, medley relay, backstroke, freestyle events, and veteran categories also produced thrilling finishes.

By the end of the swimming events, NLNG led the medals table with 5 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze. NCDMB finished second with 3 gold, 3 silver, and 1 bronze, while OANDO claimed third with 3 gold and 3 silver. NNPC, Chevron, and NMDPRA rounded out the top six.

In singles, Salami Babs (Renaissance) defeated Joshua Bok (NLNG) 6/4, 7/6. Obende Omera (Seplat) overcame Lanre Akinwumi (NMDPRA) 6/2, 6/3, while Aladei Pius defeated Kazeem AbdulFatai (PTI) 6/4, 6/1. Ufia Fabian (ExxonMobil) fell 0/6, 0/6 to Victor Bull (OANDO).
