Formerly known as the Lagos War Memorial Cup since its establishment in 1918, the competition remains the official qualifying tournament for the national Federation Cup and a cornerstone of grassroots and professional football development in Nigeria.
The newly introduced trophy draws inspiration from the iconic Eyo Masquerade, a timeless symbol of Lagos history, dignity, and communal pride.
By adopting the Eyo as the central design motif, the Lagos State Football Association (LSFA) reinforces the deep connection between sport, culture, and identity, while preserving the prestige that has defined the competition for over a century.
In line with global football tradition and to safeguard the legacy of the tournament, the LSFA has produced two replicas of the trophy.
A 3-foot Giant Trophy will be permanently presented to His Excellency, Governor Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu, through the Office of the Director-General for Sports, serving as a lasting symbol of state support for football development.
Additionally, a 1.5-foot Trophy will be presented annually to the competition winner, ensuring continuity and honor for each champion.
This initiative underscores the LSFA’s commitment to innovation, cultural preservation, and sustainable football development.
By merging heritage with modern sporting values, the Lagos FA Cup continues to stand as a powerful platform where history, identity, and football excellence converge in Lagos State.
