Sports247 gathered that De Zerbi was delighted that Nwaneri scored on his debut for Marseille this past Saturday, just three days after his loan arrival from Arsenal of England was confirmed.
Nwaneri struck the second goal for ‘OM’ in the 3-1 trouncing of RC Lens, whose 10-game winning streak in all competitions ended with the win for Marseille, who were further propelled by Amine Gouiri’s brace.
With the Nigerian-born youngster starting ahead of iconic Gabonese star, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, history was made when Nwaneri scored the opening goal, as De Zerbi showed his trust in the 18-year-old forward.
De Zerbi was first of the game’s opposing coaches to send on a sub, with Mason Greenwood replacing Nwaneri, while OM’s other first-half scorer, Gouiri doubled his tally for the evening on 75 minutes.
Marseille climbed to third in Ligue 1, seven points behind leaders, PSG, and De Zerbi said: “Ethan Nwaneri will become a top player, I’m sure of that. You can see the quality, the impact. He’s so strong.”
