This is contained in a technical review by popular online medium, Tribal Football, which noted that the competition ended with Senegal defeating Morocco 1-0 in a highly controversial final with one of the best 11 goals by Pape Gueye.
While Gueye gets a mention, other efforts listed alongside him and Lookman were Ayoub El Kaabi (Morocco) vs Zambia, Tawanda Maswanhise (Zimbabwe) vs South Africa and Christian Kofane (Cameroon) vs Mozambique.
Also on the roll call are Riyad Mahrez (Algeria) vs Sudan, Lyle Foster (South Africa) vs Angola, Aamir Yunis Abdallah (Sudan) vs Senegal, Adil Boulbina (Algeria) vs DR Congo and Elias Achouri (Tunisia) vs Uganda.
Top of the list is Ayoub El Kaabi (Morocco) vs Comoros, which the columnist, Nick Said described as ‘arguably the goal of the tournament for its technique and audacity came in the very first game.’
A citation for the 2024 African Footballer of The Year stated, “Lookman scored the winner for Nigeria in their opening game against Tanzania with a superb piece of skill.
“He picked up the ball 30 yards from goal, twisted and turned past his marker to create space and fired an arrowed shot into the net from the edge of the box.”
