CAF’s disciplinary review cited multiple violations involving players, officials, fans, and media personnel, leading to both financial penalties and individual sanctions.
The detailed breakdown of the fine includes $5,000 for player bookings, $25,000 for post-match misconduct by players and officials, $5,000 each for the use of flares and throwing of objects by supporters, $10,000 for failure to meet CAF security standards, and $50,000 related to fan and media misconduct.
In addition to the financial sanctions, Algeria defender Rafik Belghali received a four-match suspension for his involvement in the incidents.
CAF confirmed that two of the suspended matches will take effect immediately, while the remaining two will carry over to the 2027 AFCON qualification campaign.
The disciplinary action underscores CAF’s commitment to enforcing strict standards of conduct on and off the field, emphasizing accountability for players, officials, fans, and media during continental competitions.
The sanctions come as a warning to all member associations about maintaining discipline and ensuring compliance with CAF regulations in future tournaments.
Algeria’s AFCON 2025 encounter with Nigeria was marred by heated on-field confrontations and post-match tensions, drawing CAF’s scrutiny and prompting the governing body to take decisive action to uphold the integrity of the competition.
