The centre-back was part of Nigeria’s squad at the Africa Cup of Nations, where the Super Eagles impressed with a strong tournament run.
Ogbu’s international commitments kept him away from Slavia Prague in recent weeks, but the defender is now back with the Czech champions and has resumed full training ahead of one of the biggest fixtures of their European season.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League encounter, Slavia Prague head coach Jindřich Trpišovský confirmed Ogbu’s return and fitness status.
“Igoh has also returned after a successful championship,”
Trpišovský said. “He was away from the team for a while, but he is already training. Apart from players who are not on the roster, the squad is complete.”
Ogbu’s availability is a significant boost for Slavia Prague as they prepare to host Barcelona in the penultimate round of the Champions League league stage.
The Czech side face a formidable challenge against the Catalan giants, who are pushing for a top-eight finish in the competition and are expected to approach the match with maximum intensity.
The Slavia coach acknowledged the scale of the task ahead, describing Barcelona as one of world football’s elite sides, but stressed the importance of collective discipline, resilience and game management—particularly in surviving the early pressure expected from the Spanish champions.
For Ogbu, the match represents a swift transition from international duty back to elite club football, with the opportunity to test himself against some of the game’s best attackers on Europe’s biggest stage.
His presence will add depth, experience and physicality to Slavia’s defensive options as they look to produce a competitive performance in front of their home fans.
The Champions League fixture between SK Slavia Prague and FC Barcelona will be played on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at the Fortuna Arena in Prague.
