Sports247 reports that, although the Eagles lost to host country, Morocco in the semi-finals, the Benue State-born hitman reckoned that their emergence as the highest scoring team proved they were the best.
He further pointed out that, considering they did not lose any game during open play, as they only lost to Morocco via penalties after a goalless end to extra time, justified his verdict that Nigeria had the best squad at AFCON 2025.
Akor, who started four matches, scored two goals and got two assists during the competition, added that all the players are grateful for how their Franco-Malian coach, Eric Chelle transformed the team tactically at AFCON 2025.
Akor posited, “We are the best team and we came for the gold. We didn’t take it, but we are proud of what we have been able to achieve.
“We are all grateful to Eric Chelle for what he has done for us as a group in the last three weeks. We are better people because of Chelle.”
Sports247 gathered further that Akor and Eagles’ back-up winger, Chidera Ejuke, were both celebrated after their return to Sevilla on Sunday, as the La Liga club noted that they are now both AFCON bronze medalists.
