Nigerian defender Nicole Payne has signed for Orlando Pride, joining the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) side on a one-year contract running through the 2026 season.
Orlando Pride confirmed the signing alongside the additions of forward Seven Castain and goalkeeper Cara Martin, as the club continues to strengthen its squad ahead of the new campaign.
Payne arrives from Portland Thorns, bringing valuable top-level experience to the Pride backline. The versatile defender has previously featured in Europe with Paris Saint-Germain, where she gained exposure at the highest level of women’s football, including continental competition.
Her signing adds depth, athleticism, and tactical intelligence to Orlando Pride’s defensive unit. Known for her composure on the ball, positional awareness, and ability to contribute in both defensive and transitional phases, Payne is expected to provide strong competition and reliability across the back line.
For Nigerian football, Payne’s move represents another positive step, with Super Falcons players and eligible stars continuing to make their mark in top leagues across Europe and North America.
Her presence in the NWSL further highlights the growing influence of Nigerian defenders on the global stage.
As Orlando Pride prepare for the upcoming season, all eyes will be on Payne to see how quickly she settles and contributes to the team’s ambitions in one of the world’s most competitive women’s leagues.
