AFC Toronto have secured the future of Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo after announcing a contract extension that will keep the Nigerian international at the club through the 2027 season.
The Northern Super League (NSL) champions moved early in their offseason planning, rewarding Okoronkwo for a remarkable debut campaign that saw her emerge as one of the league’s standout performers during the 2025 season.

Okoronkwo, who joined AFC Toronto ahead of the club’s inaugural NSL campaign, played a central role in their historic run.
She finished the regular season with double-digit goals and several assists, helping Toronto claim the 2025 NSL Supporters’ Shield as regular-season champions with the league’s best record.
Her impact extended beyond club football, as the prolific forward also starred for Nigeria on the international stage.
Okoronkwo was instrumental in the Super Falcons’ Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) triumph, contributing goals and assists and earning Player of the Match honours in the final as Nigeria secured the continental title.
The 28-year-old’s clutch performances continued into the NSL playoffs, where she scored a hat-trick to fire AFC Toronto into the Championship Final, further underlining her reputation as a big-game player.
In addition to Okoronkwo’s extension, AFC Toronto confirmed new deals for Zoe Burns, Kaila Novak and Lauren Rowe, ensuring continuity across a core group that powered the club’s early success. All extensions run through at least the 2026–27 season.
“We’re thrilled that Esther, Lauren, Zoe, and Kaila have all committed to extending their time with AFC Toronto,” said Sporting Director Billy Wilson. “Their commitment reinforces our belief in this group and our ambition as we continue to build toward the future.”
With several key players now secured and more roster moves expected, AFC Toronto are positioning themselves to build on last season’s momentum as they prepare for their second NSL campaign
