Reflecting on the moment, Troost-Ekong described the period as “deeply personal and emotional” following “10 unforgettable years representing Nigeria.”
“To have worn the green and white for a decade, and to have captained my country, is something I will carry with pride for the rest of my life,” he wrote.
“Every cap, every anthem, every moment of struggle and celebration meant something far beyond football.”
Although he has stepped away from international duty, Troost-Ekong stressed that his bond with the Super Eagles remains unbroken.
“As one chapter closes, my support for the Super Eagles will never fade,” the former captain stated.
He revealed that watching Nigeria complete a perfect group-stage campaign at AFCON 2025 and advance to the quarter-finals filled him with immense pride and emotion.
“Seeing the team play with hunger, personality and belief was truly special,” Troost-Ekong noted, expressing strong confidence in the squad’s ability to progress further in the tournament.
“The talent is there, the spirit is strong, and I have no doubt the team will continue to inspire millions back home.”
Troost-Ekong also reflected on the broader African football landscape, describing it as “special” to see so many African players performing on the continental stage in Morocco, including a notable presence from the Roshn Saudi League.
“Seeing teammates and opponents proudly representing their countries is a reminder of not only the strength of African football, but also the quality that now exists in Saudi Arabia’s top division,” he added.
As the Super Eagles push deeper into AFCON 2025, Troost-Ekong’s words resonate as a powerful reminder of his legacy—one defined by pride, leadership and an unwavering belief in the future of Nigerian football.
