AFCON 2025: Ajayi Urges Super Eagles to Keep Improving Ahead of Algeria Quarterfinal

Speaking after Nigeria’s emphatic four-goal victory that secured a place in the last eight, Ajayi said the result was encouraging but warned against complacency, noting that the standard required only gets higher as the competition progresses.

“It was a good performance from the team and a very important win for us,” Ajayi said. “But at this stage of the tournament, you can’t relax. Every game is tougher than the last, and we have to keep pushing ourselves.”

The West Bromwich Albion defender highlighted the importance of balance in the team’s approach, praising the attacking efficiency while also pointing to the value of maintaining concentration at the back. He noted that keeping a clean sheet was a positive sign, especially after conceding late goals in earlier matches.

Ajayi also stressed that respect for opponents remains key, insisting that Nigeria’s success so far has come from discipline, unity and a collective desire to improve with each outing.

“There are no easy games at AFCON,” he added. “Every team here has quality. The focus is on improving with every match and making sure we’re ready for whatever comes next.”

Nigeria’s next challenge is a heavyweight quarterfinal clash against Algeria national football team, scheduled for Saturday in Marrakesh. Ajayi acknowledged the threat posed by the North Africans but expressed confidence in the Super Eagles’ preparation.

“We know Algeria will be a big test,” he said. “But if we stay focused, work hard and stick to our game plan, we believe we can take another step forward.”

As the Super Eagles chase a place in the semifinals, Ajayi insists the team’s mindset remains firmly on steady progress and continuous improvement in Morocco.
