Speaking from the team’s camp after Nigeria’s emphatic Round of 16 victory, Osimhen described Nigerian football supporters as passionate and demanding, noting that expectations are always high regardless of results.
According to the Napoli forward, such pressure comes with the territory of playing for a football-loving nation like Nigeria.
“Nigerian fans always want more, and that’s because of the love they have for the game,” Osimhen said. “No matter what you do, there’s always a demand for more. I understand it, but once we step on the bus and onto the pitch, everything else is blocked out.”
Osimhen stressed that his focus, and that of his teammates, is strictly on preparation, performance and winning matches. He added that the squad has developed a strong mentality, allowing them to channel pressure into motivation rather than distraction.
The striker also dismissed suggestions that emotions or on-field intensity could affect unity in the team, insisting that competitiveness and high standards are part of what is driving the Super Eagles forward at the tournament.
With Nigeria now through to the last eight, Osimhen says the team is fully locked in on the next challenge, a high-stakes quarterfinal clash against Algeria national football team.
“We know what’s at stake now,” he added. “The quarterfinal is a big game, and we’re preparing seriously for it. Algeria are strong, experienced and dangerous, so we must be ready in every aspect.”
Nigeria will face Algeria on Saturday in Marrakesh, with a place in the AFCON semifinals on the line as the Super Eagles continue their push for continental glory.
