AFCON 2025: Dele-Bashiru Hails Super Eagles’ Rise as Focus Shifts to Algeria Quarterfinal

Speaking after Nigeria sealed qualification for the quarterfinals, the Lazio man said the Super Eagles’ performances have improved with every game, reflecting the intensity of training sessions and the players’ increasing understanding of the coach’s ideas.

Dele-Bashiru noted that reaching the last eight did not happen by chance, stressing that the squad has remained disciplined and focused behind the scenes.

According to him, the commitment shown on the training ground is now being translated into confidence and control on the pitch.

“It’s been a lot of hard work in training to get to this level,” Dele-Bashiru said. “With every match, you can see the improvement. That tells you the team is growing and understanding each other better.”

The midfielder, however, warned against complacency as the tournament enters its most decisive phase. He emphasized that mistakes at this stage could be costly, adding that the players must remain fully focused and continue to push themselves.

Attention now turns to a heavyweight quarterfinal clash against Algeria national football team, scheduled for Saturday in Marrakesh. Dele-Bashiru acknowledged the quality of the North Africans but expressed confidence in Nigeria’s readiness.

“The focus has shifted straight to the next game,” he added. “We know Algeria will be tough, but if we stay disciplined, work hard and keep improving, we believe we can get the result.”

Nigeria will head into Saturday’s showdown aiming to maintain their momentum and take another step toward continental glory in Morocco.
